Welcome to FundIQ
Regular readers of our monthly newsletter may have noticed that we’ve paid particular attention to money market funds of late. It’s true. However, as you’ll see, this is another example of our firm’s philosophy to consciously and consistently seek to challenge conventional thinking about cash management.
We understand that while some investors may still hold fast to the assumption that all money market funds carry negligible risk, other investors have never regained confidence in prime money funds since the Reserve Primary Fund “broke the buck” in the fall of 2008. We believe the most prudent approach to money market fund investing lies somewhere in between these two extremes. We also believe that thorough research can equally benefit those who may be too cavalier when selecting funds as well as those who remain too fearful to return to prime money fund investments. It is for this reason that we have developed FundIQ™.
For years Capital Advisors Group has rigorously researched institutional money market funds to determine the most appropriate liquidity vehicles for our clients’ separately managed accounts. After publishing several research papers on money market fund risk over the past few years, we began to field inquiries from a variety of institutions asking us for support in assessing their own money market fund holdings. In the past we had strictly used our money market fund research as an internal tool in managing separate accounts, but, with FundIQ we’ve now decided to externalize our money fund research to provide institutions with this highly detailed view of money market fund risk designed to help support money market fund selection and ongoing risk monitoring.
This month we will be officially launching FundIQ. This is the nation’s first and only research platform designed with the goal of maximizing performance through our proprietary fundamental risk analysis of prime institutional money market funds. FundIQ presents entirely new thinking on how to select and monitor institutional money market fund positions. While many may assume any fund with a AAA rating carries equal risk, we believe this new convention for money market fund selection and risk monitoring challenges the old way of thinking and gives treasurers more granularity into several risk categories within funds.
